New Delhi, October 27: The Election Commission today announced the commencement of the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 12 states and Union Territories (UTs). This includes major states such as West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. The revision process will affect a total of 51 crore voters, with the enumeration starting on November 4, as confirmed by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

States/UTs in Phase 2 of SIR:
Andaman and Nicobar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.

During a press conference, Chief Election Commissioner Kumar extended his gratitude to the people of Bihar for the successful completion of the SIR process there. He noted that voters in Bihar showed overwhelming enthusiasm, resulting in the absence of any appeals.

This time, the enumeration form for the SIR will differ from the one used in Bihar, according to Kumar.

Additionally, the electoral rolls in the states where Phase 2 of SIR will be conducted will be frozen tonight, marking a crucial step in the revision process.

The last SIR took place over 21 years ago, between 2002 and 2004. Since 1951, the process has been conducted eight times, with this phase being the latest in the ongoing efforts to maintain up-to-date voter lists.
