Bhubaneswar, Oct 18: Odisha government on Saturday announced October 20 as an additional Diwali holiday, having earlier declared October 21 as a holiday for the festival of lights.
Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Department issued a notification in this regard and confirmed the additional public holiday.
All state government offices and executive magistrate courts across Odisha, except in Nuapada district, will remain closed on October 20, 2025.
Nuapada district has been specifically excluded from the holiday owing to the upcoming by-poll, so its government offices and executive magistrate courts will remain open on October 20.
The Revenue and Disaster Management Department’s notification today clarified that the fourth Saturday, October 25, will be observed as a working day to compensate for the additional holiday on October 20.
This decision follows the Mukti Mandap Pandit Sabha’s recommendation to celebrate Diwali on October 20 instead of October 21.
