Dhaka, Aug 22: After taking charge as the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Faruque Ahmed has stated that he would like to see former captain Tamim Iqbal playing for Bangladesh once again.
Faruque, a former cricketer and chief selector replaced Nazmul Hasan Papon, who resigned from his post in the wake of the political unrest in Bangladesh.
Faruque is the first BCB president to have played any competitive cricket. He played seven ODIs between 1988 and 1999 and led Bangladesh in the ICC Trophy in 1994.
After assuming charges, in his first press conference, Faruque stated he wants to see veteran Tamim Iqbal play for Bangladesh again.
Faruque also questioned head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe's role. Expressing his dissatisfaction, he said Hathurusinghe should no longer continue as Bangladesh's head coach. He had expressed the same view earlier this week as well, before taking up the BCB job.
He further added that he will speak to his colleague over the next two or three days, and see if they can find someone better than Hathurusinghe. We have to prepare a shortlist, and see who wants to join us, he added.
