Bridgetown (Barbados), July 01: Jasprit Bumrah, the key architect of Team India's ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 and the winner of the 'Player of the Tournament', has an interesting record too.
He became the first ever T20 World Cup 'Player of the Tournament', without scoring a single run. He was dismissed for a duck in the very first ball he faced against Pakistan. That was of course the only time he had to bat in the tournament, revealed records.
Bumrah may be the only player among men and women in the T20 World Cups so far to win the 'Player of the Tournament' without scoring a single run, but such instances are not new in ODI cricket.
In 2007, ODI World Cup, Australia's legend fast bowler Glenn McGrath won the 'Player of the Tournament', but in 11 matches, he did not even bat once.
Another Australian Mitchell Starc in 2015 ODI World Cup too had a similar record. Starc faced three balls in three innings and his total score in the tournament was zero.
Leave apart this interesting record, Bumrah with his magnificent bowling skills was the real force in India's T20 World Cup crown. His economy rate in the tournament was a conservative 4.17, the best for anyone who bowled more than 100-plus deliveries. Apart from giving away 29 runs against Australia, Bumrah was exceptional in the eight matches he played.
But that is not all the Indian bowling genius grabbed 15 scalps in 29.4 overs he bowled. But gave away only 12 boundaries and two sixes. That certainly is commendable.
