Guwahati, December 22: Assam has been placed on "high alert" following a fresh wave of unrest in neighboring Bangladesh, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday.

Speaking to the media during an event in Guwahati, Sarma stated that the state government is closely monitoring the situation in Bangladesh. He expressed concern over reports of atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh, including incidents of people being burned alive.

Sarma further claimed that the current political leadership in Bangladesh has been making provocative statements about the inclusion of northeast India within its borders. The Assam government, he said, is vigilant and prepared to respond to any developments.
