Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar: ILS organises beach clean-up drive at Puri

Around 60 students, scientists and staff members of the institute participated in the drive and cleaned the shoreline by removing plastic waste and other debris.

Puri, September 14: As part of the “Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar (Clean Coast, Safe Sea) campaign, the BRIC–Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar, organised a beach clean-up drive at Puri Beach on Monday to promote awareness about coastal cleanliness and protection of the marine environment.

Around 60 students, scientists and staff members of the institute participated in the drive and cleaned the shoreline by removing plastic waste and other debris. The participants also interacted with tourists and appealed to them to refrain from littering and help keep the beach clean for a healthier and safer environment.

The beach clean-up drive was led by ILS Director Dr. Debasish Dash.

Dr. Dinabandhu Sahoo, former Director, IBSD, Imphal and Professor, University of Delhi, and Er. Binod Yadav from the Lighthouse, Puri also participated in the programme.

The participants emphasised that keeping beaches clean is a collective responsibility and that sustained public awareness and participation are essential for protecting marine ecosystems and ensuring cleaner and safer coastlines.

The initiative was organised in support of the vision of the Ministry of Earth Sciences under the Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar campaign, reinforcing the message of responsible tourism, environmental conservation and protection of marine life.
