Bhubaneswar, September 7: At least three wards from Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday secured 1st rank in Swacha Vayu Survekshan declared by Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFC).
The BMC has achieved the stellar performance in the Swachh Vayu Survekshan, with Ward No. 30 and Ward No. 36 securing 1st Rank at the National Level under Category 2 cities with a population of 3–10 lakh.
Ward No. 22 also secured 1st Rank at the State Level under the Swachh Vayu Survekshan, marking a significant achievement that reflects BMC’s commitment to a cleaner and healthier Bhubaneswar.
The awards were presented by Justice Prakash Shrivastava, Chairperson, National Green Tribunal (NGT), in the presence of senior dignitaries from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
BMC Mayor Sulochana Das, Commissioner Chanchal Rana received the award on behalf of the civic body.
The achievement reflects BMC’s sustained efforts towards improving air quality and creating a cleaner and healthier Bhubaneswar. Swachh Vayu Survekshan evaluates cities and wards on key parameters including dust control, plantation, vehicular emission control, scientific waste management, and Construction & Demolition (C&D) waste management.
The Swachh Vayu Diwas 2026 was observed at the MoFECC in New Delhi, with the 5th Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan Awards recognising cities and wards leading efforts towards cleaner air.
The event also highlighted progress under NCAP, with 108 of 130 cities showing improvement in PM₁₀ levels, and saw the release of a Compendium of Best Management Practices to help replicate successful air-quality measures across cities.
