Bhubaneswar, Aug 20: The Commissionerate Police, Odisha has seized as many as 8 active SIM boxes, at least 1000 blank SIM Cards with other telecommunication devices from Jharkhand on Tuesday.
A sleuth of police conducted a surprise raid at the Moulana Azad residential area in Ranchi and recovered the suspicious devices from a closed room that were utilized for managing fake international calls.
While conducting a raid in Cuttack on Monday, the sleuths had got a significant lead on the matter from the Bangaldeshi operator which is the mastermind of the unauthorized SIM Box stations installed in various states.
The sleuths of the Commissionerate of Police are in a crossward puzzle to exhume a number of actiive SIM Boxes, routers and modems that were being operated as full-fledged telephone exchanges in closed-door houses in the twin Cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
Following the arrest of a Bangladesh operator and seizure of these illegal telephonic devices those are usually used for illegal operations to manage cyber crimes, for networking Naxalite activities and connecting concealed international calls to Pakistan, China, Bangladesh etc, the Commissionerate Police has intensified its search operation to unearth further details.
From the primary clues, provided by the Bangladeshi national identified as Asadur Jaman yet, the sleuths were successful to nab another associate identified as Raju Mandal who hails from Kolkata in West Bengal. Police investigation revealed, Mandal was looking after a SIM Box station installed in Brundaban Bhawan in Cuttak under the Madhupatna police limit.
Meanwhile, a team of the sleuths have conducted a raid in a Cuttack-based hotel where the kingpin of the SIM Box Station, Asadur was accommodated most frequently during his Odisha tours. During interrogation to the duo, the police have got a significant lead in the illegal SIM Box operations. The two suspected have reportedly informed regarding another SIM Box station working in Jharkhand.
Based on the clues, a team of the police is going to leave for Ranchi to unearth the SIM Box stations, functional by the Bangaladeshi operatior.
Informing about the recent development, Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda Said, “We will conduct raids in the secret spots in Jharkhand, as specified by the accused persons with the help of the local police.”
