Khordha, Aug 30: An elephant was found dead on Friday in the Damanbhuin Bhandarijhar area under the Tangi range in Khordha district.
While the exact cause of death is yet to be determined, officials suspect that electrocution may be responsible.
This incident marks the second elephant death in the area within the last two months, raising serious concerns about the declining elephant population in Odisha. Just two months ago, a 9-month-old elephant calf died in the Athagarh forest range of Cuttack district due to septicaemia.
In a similar incident earlier in June, a young elephant, estimated to be five to six years old, was found dead in the Sorishapal Reserve Forest under the Athagarh division.
