Bhubaneswar, Jan 12: Odisha is set to experience another spell of cold weather on the 13th and 14th of January. The night temperatures dropped on Saturday, and though slightly higher on Sunday, the state is expected to see mercury levels fall again in interior and coastal regions on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to meteorologists.

Dr. Sarat Sahu, Director of the SOA Centre for Climate and Environment, said that a low-pressure system formed over the Tamil Nadu coast brought in moisture-laden winds. This resulted in cloud cover across the sky. However, a trough line moving from the northwest pushed the clouds back toward the sea.

By Sunday night, skies over interior Odisha were clear, and by Monday morning, coastal Odisha is also expected to see clear skies. Once the skies clear, temperatures are likely to drop again. According to the pre-monsoon forecast from the State Meteorological Department, night temperatures could fall by 2–3 degrees Celsius in various parts of the state over the next three days, intensifying the cold.

On Saturday, night temperatures recorded were:

Daringbadi: 6.5°C

Phulbani: 7°C

Rourkela: 8°C

Jharsuguda: 8.3°C

Nabarangpur: 8.5°C

Jeypore/Udayagiri: 9.4°C

Cloud cover had kept night temperatures relatively higher across most parts of the state. In the capital, Bhubaneswar, mercury was 10.2°C on Friday night, which rose to 17°C on Saturday.
