New Delhi, January 2: The Supreme Court has agreed to examine a petition filed by AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, calling for the effective enforcement of the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act of 1991. The law mandates preserving the religious character of places of worship as they were on August 15, 1947.

A bench led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, along with Justice Sanjay Kumar, directed that Owaisi’s plea be combined with existing cases on the same issue. The court scheduled the hearing for February 17.

Advocate Nizam Pasha, representing Owaisi, urged the bench to include the new petition with the related ongoing cases, emphasizing the importance of addressing the matter comprehensively.
