Bengaluru, Feb 15: While anxiety in a man makes him isolated from the society, sometimes it becomes a pivot for maladjustment. However, an isolated US-returned techie recently killed his elderly parents for fundraising to venture his own startup, has proved the psychological findings wrong.

The techie, who was reportedly a senior IT Engineer in the US, brutally butchered his highly esteemed parents, stabbing them frequently, demanding funds for his projects on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Rohan Chandra Bhat, was arrested on charges of murdering his parents.

The ghastly crime took place at a villa in Vignan Nagar, near HAL township, in east Bengaluru.

The deceased have been identified as Naveen Chandra Bhat(60), a retired Captain of Indian Navy, and his dentist wife Shyamala Bhat (55), residents of in Adarsh Vista.

Based on early investigations, police said Rohan who was in deep frustration after leaving the US job, repeatedly stabbed his parents after he was denied to fund for his new project.

Hearing the commotion, neighbours rushed to the villa and picked the couple from a pooll of blood. They were soon shifted to Manipal Hospitals, Old Airport Road for resuscitation. However, Doctors declared them brought dead.

With the complaint lodged at the HAL police based on a medical memo, the bodies were seized from the health facility and preserved in the mortuary, for their daughter to come who serves in the US.

According to a senior police officer, Rohan worked as a software engineer in the US and returned to Bengaluru three years ago. Details of his overseas employment and the reasons for his return are yet to be ascertained.

A police officer said, “Rohan, a bachelor, was doing projects independently and wanted to scale them up with more investments in then, but in vain, due to no righteous financer in his hand. As a result, he was reportedly in deep anxiety and voraciousness.

When he found it difficult to raise capital for the projects conceived by him, he expected it from his moneyed parents, living lavishly with high pension and other financial securities. Subsequently, he started pressuring parents to financially support his projects, but frequently failed to melt their hearts as the aged couple claimed helplessness to finance him.

This led Rohan to quitting the parental home and frequent quarrels with his parents. Some time ago, Rohan shifted to a rented accommodation in Varthur.

Police said anguished Rohan, visited his parents res in the villa Monday night and demanded money from his parents with life threats.

The fight escalated by Wednesday morning following which Rohan stabbed his parents to death, the officer added.

Police took Rohan into custody and produced him before the court.

The bodies were shifted to Bowring Hospital. Autopsy was conducted after their daughter’s arrival,” the police added.

The brutal killing of the elderly parents has been the talk of the town in the Silicon Valley. Meanwhile, the social security of the elderly parents or senior citizens of the Gen Z siblings are at stake, especially among the high-status families.

On the other hand, social scientists and psychologists have expressed concern over the fragile bonds, breaking up like silica-blend on silly matters, undermining the eternal family relationship.

Educationist Manjushree Das, a practising Psychologist, commenting on the barbaric incident said, the pious family bonding, especially with the godly parents, is deteriorating day by day. As the world goes more material-centric, the human relationship is getting the worst for having something in kinds or cash, let alone affection and affiliation with the lawful superiors in lieu of it.

Similarly, Dr. Soumya Ranjan Dash, Senior Consultant Psychiatric SUM Hospital, Bhubaneswar, said tendency of assaulting others is a devil’s mentality of an abnormal mind. Someone with persistent anxiety and kleptomaniac attitude, preferring social isolation, may be dangerous for his own kinds, even the near & dears.
