Bhubaneswar, May 6: After suffering from intense heat waves for days, people in Bhubaneswar finally got relief on Monday afternoon when rain and thunderstorms hit the city. The cloudy sky brought light showers, lowering the temperature for a short while. Cuttack also experienced a drop in temperature, providing much-needed relief to the residents.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar had predicted that thunderstorms and rain would bring relief from the ongoing heatwave for the next four days. They also warned of kalbaisakhi in several Odisha districts, including Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Kandhamal. Surface winds are expected to be strong in the north coastal Odisha near western West Bengal, reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph. Fishermen are advised not to go out to sea until Wednesday due to rough conditions.
Thunderstorm and lightning warnings have been issued for six Odisha districts, while heatwave conditions may still persist in some areas including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Boudh, Angul, Nayagarh, Nuapada, and Bolangir.
