Bhubaneswar, Oct 15: Former Minister Snehangini Chhuria will be Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate for the Nuapada by-poll, announced party president and leader of opposition Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday.

Announcing the candidature of Chhuria, Patnaik said she has done many good works for the people.

Chhuria, who was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly twice from Atabira constituency, was Textiles, Handloom and Handicrafts Minister in the fourth term of Naveen Patnaik government. She was also Biju Mahila Janata Dal president.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today nominated Jay Dholakia, son of late Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA Rajendra Dholakia, as its candidate for the high-stakes Nuapada assembly by-election to be held on November 11. Congress has nominated Ghasiram Majhi as its candidate.

The by-election has been necessitated following the death of sitting BJD MLA and former minister Rajendra Dholakia.

Jay Dholakia is scheduled to file his nomination tomorrow in an extensive roadshow led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, flanked by senior ministers, MPs, and MLAs.
