Puri, July 13: Internationally acclaimed sand artist and Padma Shri awardee Sudarsan Pattnaik has once again brought pride to India by winning the Golden Sand Master Award and gold medal at the International Sand Sculpture Championship. The event took place at the iconic Peter and Paul Fortress in Saint Petersburg, Russia, from July 4 to July 12.
Pattnaik stood out among 21 master sand sculptors from around the world as the sole participant representing India. The competition's theme was History, Mythology, and Fairy Tales, which Pattnaik masterfully embodied in his creation.
He crafted a stunning 12-foot high sculpture depicting Lord Jagannath seated on His chariot with His devotee Balaram Das. "It had been the dream of my life to recreate Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra in a foreign land. Now, Rath Yatra is underway in Odisha and here we recreated the chariot of Lord Jagannath. My sand art won praise for the country," Pattnaik said in a video message.
