Bhubaneswar, June 20: Dharmagarh Sub-Collector Dhiman Chakma has filed a bail petition in the High Court after his earlier plea was rejected by the Special Vigilance Court in Bhawanipatna. Chakma is currently lodged in judicial custody in connection with a high-profile bribery case.
On the night of June 8, a team from the Vigilance Department conducted a raid at Chakma’s official residence in Dharmagarh and allegedly caught him red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹10 lakh. A follow-up search at his home led to the seizure of an additional ₹47.47 lakh in unaccounted cash.
Following his arrest, Chakma was produced before the Vigilance Court, which denied him bail and remanded him to judicial custody. He was subsequently sent to the district jail.
Chakma has now sought relief from the High Court, filing a fresh bail application as the investigation continues into the corruption charges against him.
