Bhubaneswar, October 15: Vigilance teams arrested a Data Entry Operator (DEO) at the Begunia Tahasil Office in Khordha district for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000.

The accused, Smruti Jayasingh, was apprehended while receiving the bribe money from a complainant who had sought the conversion of agricultural land to non-agricultural use. The complainant approached Vigilance officials after Jayasingh reportedly delayed the processing of the file and sought a bribe.

The Vigilance team seized the tainted money from Jayasingh’s possession. Searches are underway at two of her locations to probe any potential disproportionate assets.

A case has been registered against Jayasingh under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and an investigation is ongoing.
