Bengaluru, Sep 12: Despite a good start and early lead, Odisha boys were outplayed by better organised opposition Delhi, with a 2-7 margin in the Sub Junior Boys' National Football Championship 2024-25, here.
The winners played better soccer and created more scoring opportunities than Odisha on Wednesday. But it was Odisha's Ayush Gope, who netted the first goal of the match in the 19th minute.
Trailing 1-0 in the first half, Delhi stunned Odisha with aggressive football after the interval. Delhi scored the equaliser through Macdonnish Ngaairangbam, who netted the first goal for his side through a penalty kick in the 49th minute.
Macdonnish soon scored a field goal in the 52nd minute to help Delhi take the lead. But Ayush Gope scored again for Odisha (58th minute) as both sides were at par with 2-2.
Thereafter, Odisha lost grip in the tense battle. They looked almost shocked when Aman Toppo scored a self goal in the 61st minute, much to Odisha team's utter disbelief.
With the match tilting in their favour with a 3-2 stage, Delhi netted four more to take the game away from Odisha's reach.
For the winners, their dynamic captain Taibang Nganba Takhellambam netted a brace in the 64th and 88th minutes.
The other scorer for Delhi was Ansh Raj Singh, who converted a half chance to a field goal in the 71st minute and then scored through a penalty kick in the 86th minute.
