Bhubaneswar, April 20: Student traffic volunteers are no more seen in Bhubaneswar city, were deployed in important intersections and the areas facing traffic congestion.
Student traffic volunteers were playing an important role by changing the general perception of public towards police.
The scheme was rolled out by the Commissionerate Police in January 2017 to assist the police in regulating traffic. Each student is entitled to get Rs 100 every day for at least three hours of traffic duty daily.
The scheme was discontinued in view of the Covid-19 pandemic and further resumed in 2022. Two hundred interested students from different colleges were trained under DCP Traffic in a 2-day training camp. But the student traffic volunteers are no more seen in the city.
Most of the selected students are not joining their duty due to various reasons after undergoing training. Now we have 15 volunteers. We have waited for the new admission session to recruit new volunteers from different colleges of the city, said Bhubaneswar Traffic DCP PK Rout.
