Balasore, July 12: In a tragic incident at Fakir Mohan College, Balasore, a second-year Integrated B.Ed student attempted suicide by setting herself on fire. The student allegedly faced continuous harassment from the Head of Department (HOD), who had been mistreating her for a period of time.
Reports suggest that the student had previously raised objections to the HOD's behavior, demanding justice and an end to the mistreatment. However, after feeling helpless and unsupported, she resorted to the drastic measure of self-harm.
The incident occurred earlier today when the student, in an apparent act of despair, sat down on the campus and set herself on fire. She was immediately rushed to the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital then shifted to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar as her condition worsened.
However, Sameer Kumar Sahoo, the Head of Department (HOD), has been taken into police custody for interrogation.
