Bhubaneswar, October 6:The State Election Commission today held a meeting with representatives of various political parties at the conference hall of the Commission’s office to discuss the preparation of a transparent, impartial and error-free electoral roll for the upcoming Panchayat and Municipal Elections-2027 in the state.
The meeting was chaired by State Election Commissioner Madhusudan Padhi. Representatives of various recognised political parties attended the meeting and shared their views and suggestions regarding the preparation of electoral rolls for the forthcoming elections.
The political party representatives were informed about the door-to-door survey scheduled to begin on October 26. The survey will aim to make the electoral rolls more accurate, updated and error-free. It will also ensure that the names of all eligible voters are correctly included in the rolls and that details relating to ineligible, migrated or deceased voters are verified.
The State Election Commission urged all political parties to actively cooperate in the door-to-door survey process. In particular, political parties were requested to appoint their Booth-Level Agents (BLAs) at all polling stations across the state and ensure their active participation during the survey.
All political parties have also been requested to submit the details of their BLAs by October 15 to the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO). For rural areas, the details are to be submitted to the concerned Block Development Officer (BDO); for urban areas, including NACs and municipalities, to the Executive Officer; and for municipal corporations, to the Deputy Commissioner/Assistant Commissioner concerned.
State Election Commissioner Madhusudan Padhi said that an accurate and error-free electoral roll is the foundation of a healthy and transparent electoral system. Therefore, transparency, impartiality and participation of all stakeholders will be given priority at every stage of the electoral roll preparation process. He expressed hope that the active cooperation of political parties would help make the electoral rolls more reliable and free from errors.
The meeting also discussed various issues, including voter cooperation during the door-to-door survey, data collection by survey teams, and the addition, deletion and correction of names in the electoral rolls.
The Commission called upon all stakeholders to remain vigilant and play a cooperative role to ensure that no eligible person is left out of the electoral roll and that the names of ineligible persons are not included.
Representatives of the political parties offered various suggestions regarding the preparation of electoral rolls for the forthcoming Panchayat and Municipal Elections and assured the Commission of their necessary cooperation in the door-to-door survey process.
In view of the forthcoming elections, the entire electoral roll preparation process will be carried out smoothly in accordance with the prescribed rules and guidelines. The State Election Commission is working towards preparing a transparent, accurate, inclusive and error-free electoral roll through coordinated cooperation among all political parties, the administration and the general electorate.
State Election Commissioner Madhusudan Padhi, Commission Secretary Santosh Kumar Dash, Deputy Secretary Durga Charan Murmu and representatives of all political parties were present at the meeting.
