Bhubaneswar, June 13: Following the formation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government first time in Odisha, the Odisha State Bar Council, represented by Chairman Sitansu Mohan Dwibedy, extended congratulations to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy CM Kanak Bardhan Singh Deo, Pravati Parida, and the entire Council of Ministers.
They hope that this new BJP-led government will prioritize and safeguard the interests of advocates in Odisha.
Notably, the Odisha State Bar Council had previously raised several demands to protect the legal fraternities within the state. The demands included,
Enhancement of Advocate Welfare Trust Fund
The council urged the state government to increase the Advocate Welfare Trust Fund from 5 crores to 10 crores. This fund is typically provided annually to the Bar Council.
Health Coverage for Advocates: They also requested that each advocate be covered under the Madhu Babu Health Scheme, which provides financial support in case of health issues.
Establishment of an Advocate Akademi: The council advocated for the creation of an Advocate Akademi within the state.
Bharat Ratna Award for Advocate Madhu Sudan Das: The Odisha State Bar Council appealed to the previous government to posthumously confer the Bharat Ratna Award on the legendary advocate Madhu Sudan Das.
Given Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s background as an advocate, Chairman Sitansu Mohan Dwibedy is optimistic that he will address these matters and take necessary steps to benefit the legal fraternities in Odisha.
