Bhubaneswar, July 23: The Odisha Assembly has been in a state of stalemate for the second consecutive day due to the ongoing controversy surrounding the alleged assault of Assistant Section Officer (ASO) Baikuntha Pradhan by Governor Raghubar Das’s son, Lalit Kumar.
The incident reportedly took place at the Puri Raj Bhavan on July 7 during President Droupadi Murmu’s visit.
Speaker, Surama Padhy, has had to adjourn the house multiple times due to the disruptions caused by BJD MLAs, who are demanding Lalit Kumar’s arrest. Finally, she adjourned the house till tomorrow amidst the din.
Soon after house reassembled in the afternoon at 4pm, the situation escalated. BJD MLAs created ruckus again in the Assembly and trooped into the well of the house demanding Governor’s son Lalit Kumar's arrest for allegedly assaulting Assistant Section Officer (ASO).
Meanwhile, BJD’s Rajnagar MLA Dhruva Sahoo climbed up a chair in front of the Speaker and broke her microphone. Finally, Speaker, Padhy adjourned the proceedings for tommorrow as she found it difficult to run the House amidst the pandemonium,
Earlier in morning today, similar situation was witnessed in the house. Opposition Chief Whip Pramila Mallik had demanded a statement from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on the matter. Despite an FIR being lodged on July 12, no action has been taken so far, leading to further unrest.
