Mercury rising soon with foggy mornings in coastal areas

Residents across Odisha are witnessing a distinct shift in climatic patterns as the state transitions from winter to early summer. Data released by the Regional Meteorological Centre today indicates a dual weather scenario: intensifying heat in western districts and lingering foggy conditions along the coast.

While minimum temperatures are expected to remain steady for the next 72 hours, the weather office predicts a gradual rise in mercury levels shortly after. Night temperatures are likely to increase by two to three degrees Celsius across various districts, signaling the definitive end of the winter chill.

Heat in the West, Chill in the Hills

Western Odisha is already experiencing significant daytime heat. Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest station in the state today, recording a scorching maximum temperature of 35.3°C. Conversely, the hill stations are still retaining the cold, with G. Udayagiri recording the lowest minimum temperature at 8.0°C, followed by Phulbani at 11.8°C.

Fog Alert for Coastal Belts

Early morning commuters faced visibility issues today, particularly in Chandbali, which reported dense fog. Moderate fog was also observed in Jajpur, Dhenkanal, and Bhubaneswar.

Looking ahead, the IMD has forecasted shallow to moderate fog for the next two days (valid until February 17). This alert primarily covers the coastal pockets including Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, and Balasore. Drivers in these regions are advised to exercise caution during early hours.

Twin City Updates

In the capital city of Bhubaneswar, the maximum temperature touched 33.2°C, while Cuttack recorded 30.2°C. Both cities experienced moderate fog in the morning hours.

Overall, dry weather is very likely to prevail over all districts of Odisha for the next seven days, with no rainfall warnings issued.
