Special rituals mark 'Bamana Janma Niti' & Sunia festival at Puri Srimandir

Puri, Sept 4: Special rituals of 'Bamana Janma Niti' are being performed at Puri's Srimandir on Thursday, coinciding with the 'Bhadraba Shukla Dwadas Tithi,' marking the birth of Lord Vamana, the fifth avatar of Lord Vishnu.

According to the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), public darshan at Srimandir will be halted after 'Madhyahna Dhupa' from 5 pm to 8 pm to facilitate the smooth conduct of these special rituals for the Holy Trinity-Lord Jagannath, His brother Lord Balabhadra, and sister Goddess Subhadra. During this period, servitors will perform several traditional rituals, and the temple premises will be closed to the public to maintain a peaceful and undisturbed environment.

In addition to the rituals at the temple, the Sunia festival is being observed across all mutts and temples in Puri. Sunia holds deep religious, cultural, and historical significance and is considered an auspicious day to begin important activities. It is particularly important for the Gajapati king of Puri, who observes a special ceremony on this day.

“Sunia is considered as a New Year. Gajapati Maharaja will enter 68 ‘Anka’ today. It will mark the start of 1432 ‘Sal’. A special ceremony called the Abhisheka will be held at the Puri Gajapati King’s palace. ‘Gadi Puja’ will also be performed at all the mutts in Puri,” said Jagannath culture researcher Surya Narayan Rathasharma.

Additionally, the 'Parswa Paribartana' rituals for Garuda will be performed at Srimandir, contributing to the spiritual atmosphere surrounding these significant celebrations.
