Special OTET exam postponed again by BSE Odisha amid ongoing investigation

Originally, the Special OTET - intended for primary school teachers - was slated to be conducted on July 20. However, the exam was cancelled following a major question paper leak that surfaced on multiple social media platforms ahead of the test.

Bhubaneswar, August 21: The Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha has once again postponed the Special Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET), which was scheduled to be held on August 31. Citing unavoidable circumstances, the Board announced that a fresh date will be notified soon.

Originally, the Special OTET - intended for primary school teachers - was slated to be conducted on July 20. However, the exam was cancelled following a major question paper leak that surfaced on multiple social media platforms ahead of the test.

In response, the Odisha Crime Branch launched an investigation and arrested eight individuals allegedly involved in the leak. Among those apprehended were BSE staff member Jitan Maharana, Rayagada-based Ex-Cadre Teachers’ Association leader Bijay Kumar Mishra, and the then BSE Vice President Nihar Mohanty. Mohanty was later suspended from his position, and the School and Mass Education Department has since appointed a new Vice President.

Following the cancellation, the Board had re-scheduled the Special OTET for August 31. However, in a recent notification, the exam has now been indefinitely postponed once again. Candidates are advised to await further updates from the Board regarding the new exam date.
