Puri, May 8: In view of the upcoming Debasnana Purnima festival, Puri Police have made elaborate arrangements to ensure a smooth darshan of Lord Jagannath for senior citizens and differently-abled persons. Superintendent of Police (SP) Vineet Agrawal informed the media that special assistance centers will be set up at Dolabedi Kona and Market Square to facilitate the movement and comfort of these devotees.
At these designated centers, visitors will be provided with seating and escorted by police personnel to the Snana Mandap, the sacred bathing altar of the deities, for darshan. To further support them, two shaded rest areas are being constructed—one in front of the Town Police Station and another at Marichikot Square—where devotees can take rest. Wheelchairs and dedicated support teams will also be stationed at these locations.
As part of the ongoing Chandan Yatra festivities, authorities have arranged separate seating so that elderly and differently-abled individuals can safely witness the ceremonial waterrituals of the deities.
For any assistance, senior citizens can reach out to the dedicated helpline at 6370972100. In case of any difficulties, they may also contact the nodal officer, DSP Tara Jasmin Guria, at 9437390096. SP Agrawal assured that upon receiving a call, police teams will promptly reach out to assist the caller.
Meanwhile, city-wide police patrolling has been intensified following directives to all Inspectors-in-Charge (IICs). To further coordinate these efforts, a meeting was held on Wednesday evening at the Town Police Station, where over 140 senior citizens participated. The meeting focused on the special arrangements and feedback from the attendees.
The meeting was attended by several senior police officials, including Additional SPs Sushil Kumar Mishra, Sachin Patel, and Soumyaranjan Mallik; City DSP Prashant Kumar Sahu; Ghanshyam Hembram; Bijay Nanda; Traffic DSP Rajkumar Parida; Traffic Officer Jayadeep Mahanti; Town Police Station IIC Gokul Ranjan Dash; and Singhadwara Police Station IIC Shwetapadma Dash.
These proactive steps aim to make the Debasnana Purnima experience more inclusive and comfortable for all devotees.
