Puri, Oct 16: Barely 36 hours after being abducted from Konark area of Odisha’s Puri district, police rescued Jay Chakraborty (35) from Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district.
As per reports, Jay was discovered with his hands and legs bound. Police have confirmed that four individuals involved in the kidnapping have been arrested and are being questioned at Chandrabhaga Marine Police Station. Meanwhile, a manhunt is underway to nab the remaining three culprits.
According to the complainant and Jay’s friend Ashok Kumar Sahu, the incident occurred when they were traveling from Bhubaneswar to Puri, and as they reached the petrol pump, two youths in a motorcycle intercepted their car and forcibly pulled Jay out.
When Jay resisted, two other assailants got out of a car, dragged him out, and pushed him into their vehicle. They then sped off towards Konark, taking Jay captive. Thereafter, Ashok, who was in the car with Jay, immediately alerted the police.
The police acted swiftly by deploying three specialized teams to track down the kidnappers. These teams scanned multiple CCTV cameras in the vicinity, reviewing footage from the main roads leading from Konark, and coordinating with regional police forces to track the suspects across state boundaries.
After hours of efforts, the police rescued Jay from a residence in Paradeepgarh, and four of the seven kidnappers were apprehended at the Konark Marine Police Station.
According to information provided by Jay’s friend Ashok, around 20 days ago, a man named Chanchal Jena had allegedly abducted Jay and his sister from Digha. They were later rescued by the Haldia Police, and a case was registered in connection with the incident at the Haldia Police Station.
Ashok also informed the police that on the day of the recent kidnapping, Chanchal Jena had called Jay’s sister demanding money. This has led investigators to suspect that financial motives may be behind Jay’s abduction.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
