Bhubaneswar, June 12: The southwest monsoon is set to return to Odisha within the next two days, following a prolonged dry spell. Its revival has already brought a slight drop in temperatures and light to moderate rainfall in parts of the state, including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Paradip, and Rayagada.
The IMD forecasts a temperature dip of 2–4°C in the next 24 hours, with widespread rainfall likely from June 13 to 17. Thunderstorms and heavy rain, accompanied by lightning and winds up to 40 km/h, are expected in several districts including Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
A cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal is aiding monsoon advancement. On Wednesday, Jharsuguda recorded the highest temperature at 38°C, while coastal areas remained cooler but humid, with Bhubaneswar at 33.4°C and Paradip at 34.3°C.
High humidity continues to affect comfort levels, especially along the coast.
