Bhubaneswar, Nov 13: Owing to the Bharatpur Police & Army Captain’s fiancée row, the Odisha government on Wednesday issued an SOP for the Odisha police to deal with cases involving army personnel with utmost care.
Odisha Advocate General Pitambar Acharya informed it to the Orissa High Court today.
Hearing a PIL in connection with the Army Captain’s fiancée case in the Bharatpur police station, the Orissa High Court had earlier directed the state government to issue an SOP for the police detailing how to deal with cases wherein Army personnel are parties.
According to the set of norms laid down for the Odisha Police, Army personnel will be respectfully received in the police stations where their complaints will be acknowledged and registered soon. At the same time, they will be cordially treated with due respect in case army personnel are summoned to the police station in connection with petty or criminal cases.
Apart from it, details of the complaints and lawful proceedings on them will be duly intimated to the concerned army authorities with immediate effect. Similarly, no Army officials will be arrested without the prior permission of the competent authorities despite cases registered against them. However, they will be remanded to judicial custody in case of complaints attracting sections for rape or murder accusations.
