Balangir, May 19: In a shocking incident in Ghusuri Khal village under Balangir police limits, a son allegedly subjected his elderly parents to severe physical and mental abuse after failing to transfer family property into his name. Police have registered a complaint and launched an investigation.
The accused, Harichandan Maharana, a constable in Kalahandi district, reportedly developed a habit of excessive drinking and frequently harassed his parents, Sarveswar Maharana and Shantilata, verbally and physically.
The dispute escalated following the recent death rituals of Shantilata’s daughter, during which Harichandan reportedly spent ₹50,000 and demanded the family property be transferred to him. When his parents refused, he allegedly used abusive language and assaulted his mother.
Both parties were called to the Balangir police station, where authorities confirmed that legal action will be taken after a thorough inquiry.
