Bhubaneswar, October 24: The Odisha Water Resources Department is on high alert as forecasts from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predict heavy rainfall from an incoming cyclone. In response, the state government is implementing robust measures to manage reservoir levels effectively and prevent any adverse impact.
A review meeting was convened this evening at Lok Seva Bhawan, chaired by Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg. Senior officials, including the Chief Engineer of the department, participated in the discussions.
During the meeting, officials were instructed to closely monitor the water levels in reservoirs statewide, anticipate inflows from the expected rainfall, and plan for controlled water releases. Although river levels remain low, minimizing flood risk, the Development Commissioner urged continuous vigilance and rapid response to ensure effective management.
“All officers and engineers, both at the headquarters and field levels, must stay on high alert and perform their duties with utmost diligence to manage water levels and avoid any potential crisis,” said Development Commissioner Anu Garg.
The meeting also emphasized the importance of accurate forecasting and early planning to mitigate risks associated with heavy rainfall, ensuring both public safety and efficient reservoir management.
