Cuttack, Aug 13: Despite their dream run in the tournament till the final, Odisha finished runners-up in the Junior Boys' National Football Championship for Dr BC Roy Trophy 2024-25.
Odisha had to be satisfied with the Silver medal, after they were convincingly beaten by West Bengal with a 2-0 margin in the final at Ram Krishna Mission Ashram Ground, Narainpur in Chhattisgarh.
For the winners, Subhodip Sardar scored both the goals. Though Odisha were undefeated throughout the tournament, but in the title summit on Monday, Subhodip netted the first goal for West Bengal just in the second minute of the first half.
Despite several attempts, Odisha could never score the much needed equaliser to make a comeback into the game.
After trailing 1-0 in the first half, Odisha conceded yet another goal in the 72nd minute in the second half. The scorer was again Subhodip Sardar.
Earlier on Saturday, Odisha boys defeated Chandigarh by a 2-0 margin in the semifinal to set a final clash date with West Bengal.
Although Odisha failed to conquer the final frontier and finished runners-up, but Football Association of Odisha (FAO) secretary Ashirbad Behera and other members of the state football body, have congratulated the team.
They congratulated Odisha captain Prempiyush Bagh, goalkeeper Uday Ekka and other members of the team for their success at the Junior Boys' National Football Championship for Dr BC Roy Trophy 2024-25.
