Balangir, Nov 15: An elephant fell into a well at Latasahada village under the Murribahal Range on Saturday morning, prompting an immediate response from the Forest Department. A rescue operation is currently underway, officials confirmed.

Authorities have urged local residents to stay away from the site for their own safety. Both the Forest and Police Departments have issued strict warnings advising the public not to gather near the well.

This incident comes just days after an elephant calf fell into an abandoned well in Bijamal village. During that rescue effort, the animal, after being brought out, turned aggressive and attacked several people, leaving a Kenduleaf forester critically injured. The elephant herd has also reportedly caused significant damage to crops in nearby villages.

Forest officials are stationed at the Latasahada site and are exploring ways to safely lift the trapped elephant out of the well. Further updates are awaited as the rescue operation continues.
