Puri, Oct 12: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) will soon issue an official standard operating procedure (SOP) for implementing dress code rules in the 12th century shrine.

The Niti sub-committee, the highest-decision making body for rituals of the Puri Jagannath Temple has stressed on wearing of tradition dress to visit the temple. The rule will come into force before next year.

The SJTA has requested the devotees to wear decent attire during their temple visit. Official sources said the SJTA will now make the devotees aware about the new rule.

Many times devotees do not wear decent attire while visiting the temple that denigrates the temple’s dignity. It also harms the religious sentiments of the place. The temple administration will put up information board outside the temple premises to aware visitors in this regard.

Besides, the servitors, who are visiting the temple without service assignment, will be advised to wear traditional dress.

Every religion has such rules of wearing decent attire while visiting their respective religious places to protect the dignity of the shrine.

The Jagannath Temple Police and Pratihari servitors will check if the devotees are following the rule, said SJTA sources.
