Malkangiri, Jan 2: In an unprecedented incident, a six-month-old girl was killed on Monday during a Mao operation while the mother sustained critical bullet injuries.
The incident took place in a forest region under Gangalur police station in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh bordering Odisha’s Malkangiri district, police said.
Two District Reserve Guards were also injured in the firing by the Maoists.
A police team rushed the injured woman and jawans to the hospital for resuscitation, said Bijapur ASP Vairabh Banker.
The woman was carrying the child on the road in the jungle when gun battle was going on. The woman was hit with bullet by the naxals, he added.
Bhairamgarh area committee, Chandranna, was also injured in the clash, Banker informed.
The combing operations were intensified in the forest following the incident.
