Bhubaneswar, July 29: Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister KV Singh Deo today requested Union Power Minister Manohar Lal for favourable consideration of the critical concerns in power sector in Odisha.

The concerns includes, the early sanction of funds of Rs. 3069 crore under Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). As Odisha frequently faces cyclones and floods, the coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) has proposed disaster-resilient power infrastructure with selective underground cabling especially 30 km from the coastline. Therefore, Odisha urgently needs central financial assistance for Disaster Resilient Power Infrastructure.

Considering the rising demand of power, Singh Deo urged for the allocation of 800 MW Power from NLC Talabira Phase-II project in addition to the 400 MW already allocated in Phase-I to Odisha .

This would bring total share to 1200 MW from 3200 MW total project capacity, he said.

Odisha has been making significant strides in its power sector development. With these sanctions Odisha will not only benefit its people but also contribute to the national goal of ensuring reliable and resilient power infrastructure across the country, he said.
