Bhubaneswar, April 24: Similipal has officially been granted the status of a National Park today, marking a significant milestone in the conservation history of Odisha.
The state government has notified Similipal as a National Park.
The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) has informed the development.
“A landmark step towards Viksit Bharat, Viksit Odisha! Similipal is now officially a National Park — the 107th in India and the largest in #Odisha at 845.70 sq km. This long-awaited declaration strengthens our ecological legacy, uplifts tribal aspirations, and reaffirms Odisha’s commitment to sustainable development,” the CMO has posted on X.
“Similipal has officially been granted the status of a National Park today, marking a significant milestone in the conservation history of Odisha. This long-pending proposal, originally initiated in 1980, has now been realized. It is a big step for conservation in Odisha,” informed Prem Kumar Jha, PCCF (Wildlife).
Area of the national park is 845.70 sq km, said a notification issued by Additional Chief Secretary, Forest & Environment Satyabrata Sahu. It is second national park in the state after Bhitarkanika National Park. It is the 107th National Park of the country.
