New Delhi, Aug 16: Ace Indian badminton player Lakshya Sen, who missed a Bronze medal in Paris Olympics 2024 is determined to prove his mettle and excel in future challenges.
Lakshya during his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured him of better performance in future. On Thursday, he also narrated PM Modi how his coach Prakash Padukone took away his phone during Paris Games 2024. Lakshya stated Padukone had kept him (Lakshya) away from his phone for better performance in Olympics.
It can be recalled that Lakshya was the only Indian badminton player, who was close to win a medal in Paris Olympics. Others lost their respective matches before medal rounds.
Lakshya defeated Indonesia's Jonathan Christie, fellow Indian HS Prannoy and Chou Tien-chen. But he eventually lost to world No 1 Viktor Axelsen of Denmark.
Despite medals in three consecutive Olympics, India failed to repeat the same feat in Paris Games. Interestingly, all the three previous badminton medals have been from women's singles.
Saina Nehewal won a Bronze in 2012, followed by PV Sindhu clinching a Silver in 2016 and a Bronze in 2020.
This time apart from Lakshya, Sindhu and men's doubles pair comprising Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy were expected to win medals. But none of them could achieve a podium finish.
