Bhubaneswar, October 21: The BJP has filed a complaint with the Election Commission, seeking the rejection of Ghasiram Majhi’s nomination for the upcoming Nuapada by-election. The party alleges that Majhi, the Congress candidate, concealed his criminal record in his affidavit.

While Majhi disclosed two criminal cases in his 2024 general election affidavit, the BJP claims he failed to mention them in the current by-election affidavit. Both cases are still under trial in the Nuapada court.

BJP leaders argue that this omission constitutes an offence under the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and have urged the Election Commission to take legal action and reject Majhi’s papers.

Odisha BJP Vice-President Jatin Mohanty criticized Congress for harboring criminals and anti-social elements, accusing Majhi of unethical behavior and demanding swift action from authorities.
