Bhubaneswar, Jan 7: Leader of the Opposition and BJD President Naveen Patnaik expressed profound sorrow on Tuesday over the untimely demise of young journalist Sheela Pattnaik, who tragically lost her life in a road accident in Puri district.

In his message posted on X, Patnaik described the death as "mournful," extending his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. "In such a sorrowful time, I convey my condolences to the bereaved family members and pray for the eternal peace of her departed soul," he wrote.

The tragic incident occurred hours earlier when Sheela Pattnaik, along with another woman, was killed in a road mishap near Mangalpur Square, within the jurisdiction of Pipli police limits, in Puri district. Reports suggest that the two women were riding a scooter towards Puri when the vehicle slipped due to sand scattered on the road. As the riders fell, a speeding private bus reportedly ran over them.

Pattnaik, who was associated Prameya News7, died on the spot. The other woman sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

In the aftermath of the accident, the police detained the driver of the private bus and seized the vehicle. An investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the accident.

The tragic loss of Sheela Pattnaik has deeply affected media circles and reignited concerns about road safety and the dangers of reckless driving in the state.
