Bhubaneswar, Aug 30: The Orissa High Court has rejected the anticipatory bail application of popular playback singer Sourin Bhatt in connection with sexual harassment allegations brought by a woman.
The bail application was filed under Section 438 CrPC by the petitioner in the apprehension of arrest for his alleged involvement in the offenses registered under various sections with Cuttack Mahila police station.
After hearing Bhatt’s petition, the court granted him interim protection for a few days. The court has directed the singer to appear before the police and cooperate in the investigation during this period.
The court dismissed Bhatta’s bail plea after perusing the case diary filed in the court and seeing the status of the case.
Worth mentioning, Bhatt is accused of harassing a woman of Cuttack. The statement of the victim woman, who is a bank employee, was previously recorded by the Magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC. The woman had lodged an FIR in this regard at Jagatpur police station and the case was later referred to Mahila PS in the city.
