Sundargarh, March 6: Saroj Raut alias Ban (27), an undertrial in the Satyaram Kua murder case, died on Thursday night while undergoing treatment at Sundargarh Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

Saroj, a resident of Barpali village under Hemgir police station, had been admitted to GMCH on February 11 after falling ill in Sundargarh district jail. He, along with four other accused, was sent to Hemgir JFC Court on February 9 in connection with the murder case. Since bail was not granted, all accused were remanded to Sundargarh district jail.

District Jail Superintendent Jeevansingh Munda confirmed that the town police have registered a custodial death case and the body has been seized for postmortem at the district hospital.

Other accused in the case currently in Sundargarh district jail include Vivek Luhura (20) from Kuturma village, Sunil Kalo (25) from Barpali village, and Jhasketan Luhura (20) from Tikilipada village.
