Sensex holds steady after hitting record high at opening

Mumbai, July 2: Indian equity indices traded flat on Tuesday despite opening at record highs. The Sensex and Nifty reached new peaks of 79,855 and 24,236 respectively. By 9:42 a.m., the Sensex was at 79,393, down 82 points (0.10%), and the Nifty stood at 24,111, down 30 points (0.12%).
Smallcap and midcap shares saw declines, with the Nifty midcap 100 index dropping 146 points (0.26%) to 56,146 and the Nifty smallcap 100 index falling 28 points (0.15%) to 18,564. Sector-wise, IT, Realty, and Energy showed gains, while Auto, PSU Bank, Pharma, and FMCG sectors were among the losers.
Deven Mehata, Research Analyst at Choice Broking, indicated, "Nifty's support levels are at 24,100, 24,000, and 23,950, with immediate resistance at 24,200, followed by 24,300 and 24,400." He added insights for Bank Nifty, suggesting support levels at 52,300, 52,100, and 52,000, and resistance at 52,800, 53,000, and 53,200.
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold equities worth Rs 426 crore on July 1, while domestic institutional investors bought equities worth Rs 3,917.43 crore. Internationally, Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Jakarta markets were bullish, whereas Bangkok and Seoul were in the red. Brent crude was priced at $86.81 per barrel, and WTI crude at $83.52 per barrel.
