Bhubaneswar, February 23: A bizarre incident has unfolded in Odisha's Subarnapur district, where a newlywed woman reportedly staged her own kidnapping with the help of her lover, just hours after her wedding, according to police officials.

The couple, Haribandhu Patel, alias Rinku, from Kamakhianagar in Bolangir district, and Rashmi from Bandhpali village in Boudh district, had tied the knot earlier in the day. On their way back home, the incident took place.

While traveling near Nuabandha, within the jurisdiction of Tarbha police station, their vehicle was allegedly intercepted by a white Maruti car. The groom later claimed that his wife was forcibly abducted by her former boyfriend, who was reportedly armed, leaving him stranded on the roadside.

Following the groom’s complaint at the Tarbha police station, the case was initially treated as a kidnapping. An investigation was launched, with police questioning the involved parties and analyzing technical evidence. During the investigation, it was revealed that the entire episode had been orchestrated by the bride herself, in collaboration with her lover.
