Sensex and Nifty surge 1% as Reliance and Infosys lead market rally

Mumbai, Aug 09: The benchmark equity indices, Sensex and Nifty, each rebounded by 1% driven by strong buying in blue-chip stocks like Reliance and Infosys, coupled with a global rally in equity markets.
The BSE Sensex, comprising 30 shares, on Friday climbed 819.69 points or 1.04% to close at 79,705.91, with 28 of its components finishing in the green and only two in the red. The index opened higher, reflecting gains in Asian markets, and at one point surged 1,098.02 points or 1.39%, reaching an intraday high of 79,984.24.
Similarly, the NSE Nifty jumped 250.50 points or 1.04% to close at 24,367.50. Throughout the trading day, it rallied further, gaining 302.75 points or 1.25% to touch 24,419.75 at its peak.
