Uri, Feb 19: A selfie spot near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir has emerged as a prominent attraction for tourists. This spot allows them to capture the captivating beauty of Uri's remote border area and provides a sweeping vista of the Jhelum river.
Dubbed as the "INDIA selfie point," it offers visitors an immersive environment embodying a sense of patriotism in the region. Last year, the army opened the 'Kaman Setu', zero-point at the LoC for tourists. Subsequently, the selfie point was unveiled to the public around Republic Day this year. The brainchild behind this initiative is artist and RNAF founder, Rouble Nagi.
Strategically positioned along National Highway-44, the structure offers a breathtaking view of the picturesque Jhelum river, instilling a sense of pride among both locals and tourists, as highlighted by officials.
The army expressed gratitude towards Nagi's foundation, renowned for its women empowerment endeavors, for their contribution. "Her initiative of donating the structure reflects the growing sense of patriotism in the valley. The concept of the selfie point aims to provide a distinctive and interactive environment for individuals and groups," stated the army.
Nagi, daughter of a retired army officer, conveyed her sentiments, stating, "There's no greater honor than representing my nation through my art. It's a privilege to install my sculpture #INDIA at Uri, a remote border area." She emphasized the importance of acknowledging the sacrifices made by various segments of society for the nation's freedom.
"We are fortunate to enjoy freedom, but it's crucial for our children to understand the sacrifices made by many to safeguard it," Nagi added, urging people to consider Uri as a tourist destination. Notably, Nagi has played a pivotal role in establishing selfie points in Kashmir, including ones at the revamped Polo View Market, Rajbagh, and Dal Lake.
