Highly Anticipated Argentina Friendly in Kochi Delayed

Football fans in India eagerly awaiting Lionel Messi's arrival have received disappointing news. The planned friendly match featuring the Argentinian national team in Kochi has been postponed. The game was originally set for November 17 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The delay deals a significant blow to hopes of seeing the football superstar play on Indian soil next month.

FIFA Approval Delay Cited as Reason

The postponement was announced by Anto Augustine, the general director of the match's sponsor, Reporter Broadcasting Company. He shared the news on social media. According to Augustine, the decision was made after discussions with the Argentine Football Association (AFA). The primary reason cited was a delay in securing the necessary approval from FIFA for the match.

Augustine stated the game will now likely take place during a future FIFA international match window. However, recent media reports from Argentina suggest a longer delay. These reports indicate the match might be pushed back to March 2026.

Lingering Uncertainty and Confusion

This postponement follows a period of considerable confusion surrounding the event. Initial announcements faced conflicting statements, even involving the Kerala Sports Minister. Currently, officials in the Kerala Sports Minister's office have stated they have not received any formal communication regarding the postponement. They are awaiting confirmation after consulting with the relevant authorities.

AFA members had previously inspected the stadium in Kochi, raising hopes that the match was confirmed. The postponement leaves the final date uncertain and Indian fans waiting once again for a chance to witness Messi in action.
