New Delhi, September 30: Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) has been imposed in Delhi from September 30 to October 5, 2024.
This decision was made by the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Delhi, in response to potential protests, demonstrations, and campaigns during the first week of October.
The enforcement of Section 163 aims to maintain law and order amid various sensitive issues, including the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill, the Shahi Idgah issue in Sadar Bazaar, the politically charged MCD Standing Committee elections, and the pending results of the DUSU elections.
Additionally, the ongoing legislative assembly elections in Jammu, Kashmir, and Haryana have necessitated increased vigilance on the movement of persons and vehicles from Delhi borders.
The order prohibits:
The assembly of five or more unauthorized persons.
Carrying firearms, banners, placards, lathis, spears, swords, sticks, brickbats, etc.
Sit-ins or dharnas in any public area.
