Bolangir, Nov 12: In another case of gross corruption, a block Junior Engineer (JE) was held in Bolangir on Tuesday for siphoning MGNREGA funds meant for wagers.

The tainted block official has been identified as Jayanarayan Bag, JE Bangomunda Block in the Bolangir district.

According to souces Bag has allegedly embezzled at least Rs 22 lakh from the MGNREGA funds making fake job cards and muster rolls.

Based on inputs the Odisha Vigilance conducted raids on the JE’s office and residence from where some dubious documents relating to the MGNREGA were seized. Based on it, the official accounts and Bag’s personal savings accounts were verified that revealed gross embezzlement of government funds.

Further investigation into the matter is underway. The Bolangir district admin is also set to initiate a departmental proceeding againsted the concerned JE.
